Good post, Wim. I think patience is a key virtue when it comes to accomplishing anything in life, never mind stretching. It's one of the hardest things to do, to remain patient. We humans, we want everything now, right away. Geoff Thompson said it right in an article recently. He was out walking one day, bemoaning his lack of progress, when he spotted a load of conkers (chestnuts) on the ground. When he opened one of them up what he found inside was a beautiful, perfectly formed conker that had fallen from the tree at just the right time. It was then that he realized everything had it's own time scale and things would happen when they were ready to happen, at the right time, not when we want them to happen. So as far as stretching goes, the splits will happen when you are ready for them to happen and not before. The universe has it's own time scale.
