Loren,
Great story and added quotes. Thanks for your honesty in writing that one can learn from all sources (such as a black belt learning from a white belt). Not too many higher ranks would admit to this. Also, after reading this I can't help but think, when is your autobiography going to be published (Wim's too)?

A great article and so true. Anyone can learn from anyone. In the martial arts especially, it is very easy to let pride get in the way and to restrict learning. For instance, most people do not think that lower grades have anything to teach them and lose out many times in learning what could be valuable lessons.

I remember getting a crash course in take-downs from a member of our scout platoon. This happened while on annual training at Ft. Chaffee Arkansas. I don't know if I look on that humid toilet as fond. However, I will say that it was the first time I was introduced to the striker's defense against grapplers: The sprawl.

So, despite 90 degree heat, God-awful humidity, ticks, and chiggers, I can say it's a lesson that I remember to this day.
