Killshot
ByLately, I’ve been reading a lot of Elmore Leonard books. If you don’t know him: he’s a pretty good author with dozens of novels out there. What I like best is how his plots always involve people doing both smart and dumb things at the same time, the way he portrays tough guys and criminals, but most of all his dialogues. They’re just awesome.
After my third Leonard novel I started looking for movie adaptations and aside from Get Shorty and Be Cool, which I had already seen, I found Killshot.
It’s a typical Leonard plot with a mob hit-man, mistaking identity, a tough guy too dumb for his own good and a nice ending. Mickey Rourke plays the hit-man and he does a good job. It’s not his best performance ever but it’s good enough to make him believable. Also, it features Diane Lane, who I don’t mind watching on screen for an hour and a half…

Nobody had to twist my arm to watch her on screen for 90min...
Anyway, I saw it yesterday and enjoyed the movie. No big Hollywood explosions or stuff like that, just a pretty good movie for a rainy afternoon.
Hey Wim,
I’ve read that book I think… I’ll have to force myself to watch the movie too.
Good luck John. I’m sorry you have to go through that too…
I just read his book Split Images. Writing teachers encourage their students to read Leonard to see how masterfully he handles dialog. Good stuff.
Diane Lane shore is purty.
I agree, his dialog is just awesome. I can’t recall reading another writer who can make it come alive as much as Leonard does.
Wim,
Thanks for the recommendation!
No worries.
