Will Serena Williams fight in the Octagon?

By

I blogged about Serena William’s unsportsmanlike behaviour before so I’m not surprised she proved once again how little class she has. Click on that link for the video if the one here below gets yanked by Youtube (as I think it will)

Like I wrote on Kris’s blog: in the martial arts tournaments that I’ve seen, you get booted in an instant if you talk like that to a referee. “If I see you in the corridor don’t even walk past me.” would get you not only banned, some of the referees would gladly take your punk ass up on the offer and show you the error of your ways.

The worst part is that after the match, she acts all friendly and claims not recalling what she said to the referee. Shees…If you have the balls to curse and threaten people, at least have the balls to own your words and don’t pretend it didn’t happen. That’s cowardice.

Seeing as Serena makes this type of loudmouth, aggressive behaviour pretty much her standard response when the game doesn’t go her way, I propose she takes up MMA and goes into the Octagon. There are several advantages to this:

  • She certainly has the athletic ability to do well, there’s no doubt about that.
  • She has the innate aggressiveness and gets angry when things go wrong; that would make for some spectacular fights…
  • The sport is in dire need of professional female fighters. Serena would fit the bill.

The best part: no referee would put up with her bullshit. The ref could just let the fight keep going whenever Serena foams at the mouth and then she’d get punched, kicked, choked out or submitted for her arrogance and lack of respect. Personally, I’d love to see Cris Cyborg do some ground and pound on her face and teach her some manners.

For those of you who haven’t figured it out by now, I absolutely loathe athletes who act like bullies. Just because you’re talented, doesn’t mean you have to be an asshole.

i agree. shame on the tennis referee for putting up with that kind of crap. The much revered tennis player John McEnroe would pull off the same, lame crap – personally i think these spoilt, over-indulged players vent off their steam to psyche themselves up and unsettle their opposition – sneaky tactics. totally unecessary – its a non-contact sport, win with pride!

Wim, I agree that women’s fighting arts could only benefit from a celebrity athlete crossing over and making a serious bid to become champion…but that would mean doing more than getting totally whipped in her first fight. That would just get a one day mention, then be forgotten about.

In the 80s I had a woman Tae Kwon Do student who was nationally ranked and, who later went into boxing. Like all the other women in MA and boxing, she never had any recognition or made any money.
